I got engaged!

Every year when we go to the beach Kevin wakes me up to see the sunrise...
this is the one he woke me up to see the morning he proposed!

This is the story of how we got engaged.

Many times before, while strolling along Kure beach, we took notice of the place with the yellow lighthouse and said we would stay there someday. Well finally this was the year, and the view from this luxurious oceanfront suite on the morning of our proposal was the perfect backdrop for such a grand gesture!

That morning we sat quietly on the balcony watching the sun come up as the waves crashed onto the shore. To make a gorgeous morning even better a couple of dolphins swam by our little view of the sea. I suddenly became so excited! I rushed back into the room for the binoculars (the b&b had provided) to get a closer look.

With the binoculars I returned to the balcony and sat down cross-legged and searched for the dolphins again. When I drew back the binoculars to spot them in the water, Kevin was standing

there in front of me, arm outstretched holding an opened box containing the absolutely perfect ring!

I don't remember what I said, or if I said anything at all? I do remember putting on the ring, jumping around the room and admiring it for a bit, before Kevin said, "Sooo.... Will you marry me?"

"YES!!! Of course!" I exclaimed.

‘Cradle to Candle’ A New Line of Upcycled Candles.

I am thrilled to share with you Brandywine Design’s new series of beautifully handcrafted upcycled candles: CRADLE TO CANDLE.

Named in honor of the book ‘Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things,’ these candles would most assuredly make the authors proud. Written by William McDonough & Michael Braungart, this book documents the introduction of the very term upcycled. The authors, an architect and a scientist, put forth the principle known as cradle to cradle, whereby materials are immediately reused or recycled when they no longer fulfill their original function. Material thus never ends up as garbage but, as in nature, is endlessly reused. “Part social history, part green business primer, part design manual, the book makes plain that the re-invention of human industry is not only within our grasp, it is our best hope for a future of sustaining prosperity." Upcycling containers is what makes the Cradle to Candle series so uniquely special. By reusing containers, Brandywine Design is essentially doing its part to make a small reduction in landfill. And because these candles are made from all-natural wax, once the candle is spent, the containers can easily be cleaned and reused by washing with hot soapy water.

Scentiments, the first line in the Cradle to Candle series, are beautiful upcycled scented candles; each in a reused glass container, commonly found in American households, with a special message making Scentiments candles a great meaningful gift and just in time for Valentine’s Day!
